The company was set up in 1932 by Charles André to distribute petroleum products in the Rhone valley.

Charles André, the founder

1952 : The Charles André transport company now has some fifty vehicles. Charles André and his team decide to move from Vallon-Pont-d’Arc, on the Ardèche River, to Montélimar, much better located in the lower Rhone valley, at the crossroads of great communication routes.

In the 1970s the booming economy allows the company to develop and Groupe Charles André SA is founded. Smaller companies are taken over or amalgamated, becoming agencies. The Group then develops within France (Lyon, Le Havre and Marseille).

Charles-Pierre André
In 1972, Charles-Pierre André takes over from his father at the head of the company. Under his leadership, until his accidental death in 1991, the company experiences tremendous growth.
From 1978 onwards, the network of agencies is changed to subsidiaries, which enjoy considerably autonomy, and the company grows by acquisitions.
The Group diversifies into the transport of non-dangerous goods, expands to Europe and extends its reach to new trades in the field of logistics.
In the early 1980s, GCA becomes one of the pioneers of combined transport, and, as early as 1988, starts developing its network of cleaning stations open to other hauliers.
The André family has to this day remained the Group’s single shareholder, ensuring it independence and making for a stable development.
